Some of our elected leaders would have us believe that a well-armed general public would make our state safer. They rely in the elementary fallacy that there are \"good guys\" and \"bad guys\" and since the bad guys don\'t care about the rules, the good guys need to be armed to even the score.
At the core of our humanity, every single one of us has the capacity for bad and good. Far too many truly good people use lethal weapons in times of acute rage, mental illness, intoxication from alcohol, drugs or prescribed medications, or just moments of sheer stupidity.
Arming more citizens at a time when mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, and anger are soaring is a truly terrifying prospect.
