DOCTORS FOR AMERICA APPLAUDS HOUSE REFORM EFFORTS
Doctors: Payment reform, insurance coverage concerns addressed in bill
WASHINGTON, DC—Doctors for America applauded the bill announced today by the House as progress toward health care reform that will help patients and the doctors who treat them. The content of the bill, which provides increased access to affordable, high quality health care for all Americans while controlling the cost of health care for our patients and our nation, resonated with the group.
“Doctors across the country have told us that our health care system must be fixed so we can take better care of our patients. We are pleased that the House included a public insurance option in their plan – an option that means choice and affordability for patients to access the care they need,” said Dr. Vivek Murthy of Doctors for America. “Doctors on the front lines have pushed for payment structure changes so that they can focus on quality of patients’ care, and this bill does a good job addressing that concern, as well.”
Under the current Medicare payment system, doctors are rewarded for the number of patients they treat by the reimbursement formulas in the program, but no emphasis is placed on the quality of treatment or prevention and wellness. The bill announced today not only addresses this disparity, it rewards physicians for the most important thing – giving patients the best care possible.
Doctors for America remains committed to bringing the voices of doctors to the reform process on Capitol Hill. Last week, they pushed the urgent message of health reform in person by delivering an X-ray diagnosis of the nation’s failing health system to all one hundred Senators.
Doctors for America is a grassroots group of over 13,000 physicians with a presence in all fifty states committed to passing meaningful health reform legislation. The group works to convey the ideas and experiences of physicians in order to achieve reform that provides high quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans.
