Physicians Push Senate for Health Reform Bill
Doctors for America members join Senate leaders for real reform this year
WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Doctors for America stood with members of the Senate to applaud the historic step closer to real health reform that the Senate bill represents, and urge Congress to move forward towards passing real reform.
“As physicians, we see patients caught in our broken health care system every day. Doctors across the country have told us that our health care system must be fixed so we can take better care of our patients. By addressing some of the most glaringly inadequate aspects of our health care system, the Senate’s proposal offers hope to doctors and patients who want reform this year,” said Dr. Vivek Murthy, president of Doctors for America.
Doctors for America this week launched an open letter to the Senate urging them to keep a public option. The letter is signed by physicians, medical students and patients around the country. You can view the letter online at: http://www.drsforamerica.org/petition/senate_letter.php
“There are 47 million uninsured and 87 million underinsured Americans who deserve better. A public option will mean more choice for patients who are struggling to insure their families,” said Dr. Mandy Krauthamer Cohen, Executive Director of Doctors for America.
Doctors for America is a grassroots group of over 15,000 physicians with a presence in all fifty states committed to passing meaningful health reform legislation. The group works to convey the ideas and experiences of physicians in order to achieve reform that provides high quality, affordable healthcare for all Americans.
