Doctors for America issued the following statement in response to the United States Supreme Court ruling in the King v. Burwell case.
Statement from Dr. Alice Chen, Executive Director of Doctors for America:
“Today is a great day for the health and security of millions of Americans who can breathe a little easier knowing their health insurance will not be taken away. Doctors across the country can now focus on helping their patients get better.
"It is time for Americans across the political spectrum to embrace the idea that health care should be a right in the wealthiest country in the world. We cannot go back to the days when people with pre-existing conditions - the very people who need health care the most - were denied coverage. We cannot go back to the days when more and more families lost their coverage and had to choose between paying for groceries and going to the hospital.
“The Affordable Care Act is deeply rooted in our healthcare system – opening the doors of care to millions who would otherwise be uninsured. The ACA is transforming lives and our health care system so it works better for patients. From lowering the Nation’s uninsured rate to the lowest level in four decades to expanding coverage to millions, the ACA is working.
"It’s time for Congress to stop the attacks on the ACA and work together to make health care even better for everyone. It's time for state legislators and governors in the 21 remaining states to put down their partisan opposition and accept federal dollars to expand Medicaid. The ACA is providing real and powerful change in people’s lives, and it’s here to stay.”
