Washington, DC -- Doctors for America Chair Dr. Mona Mangat issued the following statement regarding the confirmation of Rep. Tom Price to as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
"Doctors across the country are caring for patients who rely on Medicare, Medicaid, and their new insurance and protections gained through the Affordable Care Act. We disagree with Secretary Price's previous policy positions that we believe would weaken these programs for patients. We therefore call upon him as a fellow physician to examine the evidence and work with us to increase access to healthcare for everyone, especially those who need it the most."
"As was said by Hubert Humphrey on the dedication of the building in which Secretary Price will serve, 'The moral test of government is how it treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.' We intend to hold Secretary Price to that moral test."
Doctors for America mobilizes doctors and medical students to be leaders in putting patients over politics on the pressing issues of the day to improve the health of our patients, communities, and nation.
