Doctors for America today issued the following statement in response to the announcement that CVS Caremark Corp. will stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products in CVS/pharmacy stores.
Statement from Doctors for America National Leader and Virginia State Director Dr. Chris Lillis:
“We applaud CVS Caremark for taking a giant step toward improving the health of the nation. By removing tobacco from their shelves CVS Caremark is moving America closer to ending the tobacco epidemic. Physicians know firsthand smoking cessation saves lives, improves health and brings down health care costs. I have lost too many patients to lung cancer, emphysema and heart disease as a result of nicotine addiction and cigarette smoking. We owe it to our children and grandchildren to end the 480,000 needless deaths that occur every year in the United States because of tobacco use.”
