Washington, DC -- Doctors for America released the following statement in response to today’s D.C. Circuit Court ruling in Halbig V. Burwell that individuals residing in states with federally-facilitated marketplaces are ineligible to receive insurance premium tax credits.
Statement from Doctors for America Chair Dr. Mona Mangat:
“On behalf of 16,000 physicians and the patients we serve every day, we are deeply disappointed in this decision. The Affordable Care Act is working: the uninsured rate has reached a record low and millions of Americans finally have access to quality, affordable health coverage. Despite these facts, opponents of the ACA have doubled down on their attempts to sabotage the law. This lawsuit is no different.
“Thankfully, today’s decision has no immediate impact on people’s ability to use premium tax credits to lower the cost of care. We remain confident that the availability of tax credits through the federal marketplace will ultimately be upheld.”
