Statement from Doctors for America Chair Scott Poppen, MD:
“With today’s vote, Senators have violated the sacred oath that doctors take to first ‘do no harm.’ Repealing the health law and ripping coverage away from millions of patients, without a viable replacement proposal, will be a disaster of epic proportions. So far, every version of repeal would cause at least 20 million patients to lose coverage, make deep and devastating cuts to Medicaid and dramatically increase premiums. This is fundamentally unacceptable.
“Patients and the doctors who care for them urge Senators to listen to the medical and public health community which has unanimously opposed repeal. It’s time to put patients over politics and work across the aisle to improve the health law. Our patients’ lives are at stake.”
Doctors for America mobilizes doctors and medical students across medical specialties in all 50 states to be leaders in putting patients over politics on the pressing issues of the day to improve the health of our patients, communities, and nation.
