Doctors for America State and Regional Director Application


Doctors for America needs your help in to make sure the voices of frontline physicians are heard during this critical time for health reform. The power and success of this movement depends on you – doctors and medical students on the frontlines of the health care system.

Leadership: We are recruiting regional and state directors. Details are below. Please also see our Field Map for an updated list of current field leaders and open positions.

Other volunteer opportunities: Volunteers are needed to speak to the press, write letters to newspapers or online, organize your local community, educate volunteers through our partner organizations, and manage our campaigns. Visit the main volunteer page to sign up.



Regional Director (RD)

The Regional Director works as a link between the state directors and the National Field Director. Responsibilities include providing oversight and support to State Directors, recruiting new members and volunteers to Doctors for America, speaking to the press and public, and serving as a liaison to outside groups regionally (like Organizing for America, State Medical Societies, MoveOn and other provider organizations). Average time commitment: 5 hours per week.

State Director (SD):
The State Director supervises targeted outreach efforts by working directly with local DFA members and institutional point people. Responsibilities of the SD include developing relationships with DFA members within their state, recruiting and leading institutional point people (local organizers), speaking to the public and media, and serving as a liaison to outside groups. Average time commitment: 2-3 hours.

Media Outreach:
Prepare press releases and letters to the editor. Identify and following-up on media outreach opportunities.

Web Content:
Create and edit content for the group's website, including physician resources, news updates, and active and past campaigns.

Partnerships:
Help build partnerships with other physician organizations.

Writing:
Help prepare membership blasts and other written materials and resources for the group. Help respond to incoming emails and stories.
