WASHINGTON, D.C—September 9, 2021. Doctors for America (DFA) was founded on the principle that physicians are the natural stewards of public health for ALL patients. The announcement of President Biden’s six-pronged approach is a long awaited strategy to ensure that we are doing everything possible to combat COVID-19 and save lives in the months ahead.

DFA President and Board Chair, Krishnan Narasimhan, MD said, “Doctors for America applauds the release of a comprehensive strategy by the administration to improve the public health of the nation as we continue to confront this ongoing pandemic. It is important that we deploy the most effective evidence-based tools and have a systematic approach to public health during the pandemic. Doctors for America has been committed to helping the public by expanding vaccine access and building vaccine confidence. In the coming months, we will work with our partners to expand these efforts to support the American people through the pandemic.”

During COVID, DFA pivoted to support physicians working on the frontline of this pandemic, from advocating for adequate PPE for healthcare workers to leading physician-led phone banks for vaccine-related outreach. Our active COVID Response Committee created a comprehensive and continuously updated COVID Toolkit which has been shared by a multitude of organizations, along with hosting a variety of webinars highlighting vaccine-related concerns, such as vaccine hesitancy and health equity. Current efforts include working with Made to Save to provide a Vaccine Expert Corps of doctors and other health professionals to build vaccine confidence and answer questions by trusted, trained professionals.

We look forward to partnering with the Administration on implementing additional steps that will care for our patients, protect our colleagues, and bring an end to this global pandemic. The six prongs listed in the President’s plan are comprehensive and much needed. They can be further buttressed by requiring universal masking and other risk mitigation strategies in schools, providing for equitable access to high quality masks and other preventive measures, and ensuring adequate production and distribution of vaccines across the globe so that new variants do not arise.
