WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 23, 2021. The following is a statement from Dr. Krishnan Narasimhan, President and Board Chair of Doctors for America, on the reintroduction of H.R. 3, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act:

Doctors for America applauds recent political developments that indicate that Democrats, Republicans, and the Biden administration plan to address the cost of prescription drugs. Our members witness and experience the devastating impact of high drug costs every day in exam rooms and hospitals across the country. Now is time to act to alleviate the burden on our patients.

As multiple plans are launched and formed, Doctors for America urges the Biden administration to include provisions in his forthcoming American Families Plan that curb the price of existing drugs through Medicare negotiation, make negotiated prices available to the uninsured, ensure reasonable launch prices, and reinvest the savings that result from drug pricing legislation into Medicare by lowering the eligibility age and adding vision, hearing, and dental benefits. These sorts of bold steps would have a profound and positive impact on the health of our patients, and it’s imperative that legislators put #PatientsOverPolitics and include these provisions as plans for legislation move forward.
