Doctors for America today issued the following statement echoing state and national calls for Florida leaders to expand Medicaid.
Dr. Mona Mangat, a St. Petersburg allergy specialist and board member of Doctors for America:
“As a doctor, I am pleading with state leaders to expand Medicaid. If Florida fails to extend coverage, nearly one million people who are eligible for insurance under the health care law will be left with absolutely no coverage at all. It doesn’t have to be this way. Republican and Democratic governors in states across the country are putting politics aside and doing the right thing for the people they serve."
Dr. Alice Chen, Executive Director of Doctors for America:
“Medicaid expansion is a win-win for states because it will save lives and save the state money. That’s why leaders in 26 states -- red and blue -- have moved to expand Medicaid coverage under the health care law. If the remaining 24 states, also adopted Medicaid, they could reduce their combined uninsured populations by more than 5 million Americans by 2016. Coverage is good medicine and it’s also good public policy.”
