Doctors for America issued the following statement applauding President Obama for taking action to address our Nation’s gun violence crisis through a series of executive actions.
Statement from Doctors for America Executive Director Dr. Alice Chen:
“We applaud the President for taking action to reduce gun violence by expanding background checks and for proposing investments in mental health. These actions serve as an important step forward to address this preventable public health crisis devastating too many lives and communities across the country. Today’s actions will help keep guns out of dangerous hands and save lives, but Congress must still act to fully address gun violence by lifting the nearly 20 year ban on federal scientific gun research. It’s time to end the effective ban and fund the research we need to save more lives.”
